Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
