The British tennis star achieved the most important success of his career by coming back from a set down to defeat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

While he had earlier overcome Alcaraz on two occasions, this victory signifies Norrie's first ever victory over a current world number one.

"Returning from injury last year, I lost in the first round of qualies here. I just tried to enjoy my performance in the closing months of the year. To get a triumph like this, it's the greatest win of my tennis journey, my maiden triumph over the top player and probably the most in-form player in the world right now."

Norrie, positioned 31st globally, also halted Alcaraz's impressive sequence of nine straight final appearances and 17 successive premier event successes, which marked the best series of results in the young champion's developing professional path.
