Colombia's Leader Warns 'I Shall Take Up Arms Again' should American Forces Launches an Attack.

President Trump along with Colombia's president have turned up the volume in their verbal conflict, heightening tensions between the two countries after American military units attacked Venezuela in an operation to oust President Nicolás Maduro from his position.

"He runs narcotics facilities and cocaine factories and that won't last much longer," Trump remarked.

Rising Rhetoric and Accusations

Speaking to the press on Sunday, the American leader threatened similar armed intervention against Colombia, asserting the nation is also "very ill" and “run by a problematic figure involved in producing cocaine and distributing it to America."

Although Colombia remains the leading source of the narcotic, no proof exists implicating Gustavo Petro, who was elected in 2022, is personally connected to the trade.

A Strained Relationship

Colombia has long been a staunch collaborator of the US in the fight combating drug cartels and enjoyed wide political approval in the US capital, however, the relationship have worsened dramatically after Trump was elected.

Colombia’s illicit drug economy is largely controlled by criminal organizations like the Golf Clan, another leftist insurgency and renegade units of the former Farc guerrillas, most of its former fighters disbanded subsequent to a historic peace agreement.

Colombia's Strong Response

Upon being questioned whether armed intervention comparable to Venezuela was a possibility regarding Colombia, Trump said: "It sounds good to me."

The Colombian leader, an ex-guerrilla fighter who demobilised decades ago, rejected these allegations. "I am no illegitimate and I am not a drug trafficker," he declared.

"Trump speaks without knowledge. End the false accusations," he posted online.

"Should American forces attack peasants, they will turn into numerous insurgents across the countryside. If they capture the president, which a significant portion of the population admires and supports, they will release the ‘jaguar’ of the nation," the president cautioned.

From Insurgent to Statesman

The president dedicated some years as a young man as a member of the leftist M-19 guerrilla group though it is believed to have ever engaged in fighting. After demobilizing, he was involved in creating the nation's constitution in 1991 and eventually served as a respected lawmaker. He served as mayor of the Colombian capital prior to his election the presidency.

"I swore to abstain from using arms again ... but for the homeland I would take up the fight," he vowed.

Increased Security along with Cross-Political Condemnation

Colombia's defense chief stated that the president’s personal security had been reinforced.

Several members of Colombia’s conservative opposition have allied themselves with the US president, however, leaders spanning the ideological divide have condemned the notion of an invasion on Colombia.

Bilateral and Economic Pressure

American authorities withdrew his travel authorization following he urged American soldiers to ignore orders that violate law. Later, in October, it placed asset freezes on Petro, the first lady and several associates.

At the same time while America bolstered its military presence in the region and striking vessels thought to carry drugs to pressure Venezuela’s Maduro, US forces also carried out attacks on maritime targets off the Pacific coast off the Colombian coast.
