NFL 2025 season: Week six
Real-time updates features text commentary for the weekend matchups on various channels, starting with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, radio commentary is available through designated networks for another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).
It's week six in the NFL season , after recent talk about two top teams being possible championship contenders, they both lost their perfect starts.
Notable in those games was the amount of infractions each conceded. Philadelphia did so in key moments meaning they essentially beat themselves after leading 17-3 going into the fourth period against Denver, who play overseas this Sunday.
However it proved good to observe how Denver quarterback the rookie was able to have that deficit and then lead three successful possessions on three possessions in the fourth quarter, to win the victory 21-17.
Denver boast the defensive player of the year with cornerback their star corner. They are first in red zone defence, while the Eagles lead the league in scoring near the end zone, and the Broncos prevailed in that contest.
They had the Eagles' number regarding simulated pressure. They did not necessarily rushing extra defenders but they might position two linebackers in the 'A' gap then drop them out and send a nickel from the outside.
Early on in the campaign, it was noted during a show that the Broncos might emerge as this season's surprise contenders. They finished the previous year strongly and excelled of building upon that.
Could Denver be this year's dark horses?
Recently acquired tight end Evan Engram has stepped up significantly and recent RB JK Dobbins is a guy the team trusts. He's currently 5th league-wide for rushing yards (over 400) as well as tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (four).
It's impressive that the coach the Broncos' leader displays "RUN IT!" at the top of his playcall sheet.
That shows that Denver are a team aiming to prioritize the run, since you can achieve much off the back of that. It slows down the pass rush while maintains in favourable down and distances.
It's also helped QB the young passer, who entered the NFL as a first-round selection last year, passing for 29 TDs – just behind Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 in 2020).
Other elite QBs have the arm strength to pass anywhere, however they lack in the same way that Nix has. He has incredible passing ability, a unique trait, and he's so athletic.
His strengths include his mobility, being able to throw while moving, and using varied release points to make the pass as he moves out of the pocket, on rollouts. He can deliver that layered pass across the middle and over the corner.
As a rookie QB, aged 25, he's got a lot of poise under pressure and isn't bothered by the blitz. He aims to evade being tackled as much as possible and is able throw in tight spots. He has a high football IQ and remains very decisive.
If you constantly rush it consumes the clock and forces the defence to be on the field extended periods, and when you have an athletic quarterback the defence has to cover the area vertically side to side. It can be draining.
Nix has pushed back at Payton on the sideline at times and I think Payton likes that fire, seeing him as such a competitor. In my view it's exciting for the coach to coach a young quarterback who's similar to play-dough. The coach can really develop him how he wants to shape him. I think it's a special experience for the coach.
Payton has won a championship and now surpassed a legend for career NFL wins (173, tying for 14th). He's seen it all. I think the achievements the Broncos are experiencing on offence is largely due to his leadership, his schemes, his situational awareness – and the combination with Nix aids make him what he is.
You wouldn't want a more qualified person in your ear, to help you through difficult moments and build confidence.
I believe in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they strong enough to go against an elite team at full strength? Since that wasn't championship-level play by the Eagles in their last game.
Right now, I don't think the Broncos are incredible. They're performing above average, which is a good place to be in the AFC West. All they need to do is maintain this path.
They're really good at embracing their strength, that is running the ball, and that's exactly what they must do versus the New York Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.
The Jets have surrendered 140 rushing yards each contest (sixth worst), five rushing touchdowns this season (10th worst), and they are the sole squad without a win any game.
Since the league began tracking turnovers decades ago, this team are the first team to be without a single takeaway in five outings, this is kind of shocking considering that their new coach was previously a defensive coach at the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs are off to a poor start after a recent loss by the Jaguars.
Following this Sunday's game, Denver have a manageable slate until their bye (in week 12) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, the Texans and the Raiders before the Kansas City Chiefs.
Looking at their division, Kansas City are 2-3 while Denver are even with the Los Angeles Chargers at 3-2 so they could challenge for the top of the division.
It depends on which form of the Chiefs they meet since Denver {beat|def
