That Gruesome Cartoon Film Conclusion That Lingers Audiences
Out of every adult-oriented cartoon movies I’ve ever watched, no other has stuck with me as much as the fear-filled conclusion of the graphically gory and deeply subversive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, this Spanish filmmaker crafted a dark, bleak and often savage world that included several minor , forlorn twinges of optimism.
While Unicorn Wars feels like it stemmed from an impulse to expand the medium even more, the filmmaker explained that it was more an attempt to communicate a universal, multicultural theme concerning “the shared root of all wars.”
That message is conveyed via a squad of colorful pastel bears , openly based on a famous series of cuddly characters.
Being raised in a community centered on warmongering and the defense industry, a lot of these creatures are consumed by killing the mythical beasts, thanks to a sacred text that claims them they used to be masters of the woods, before the horned beings expelled them.
Some have not completely fallen for the propaganda, and would rather sample narcotics or mate outdoors.
Unlike their gentle equivalents, these colorful critters display genitals and obvious urges.
For a particular notably brutal, skeptical animal, Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns becomes a path to control — and specifically to supremacy over his more tender, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
This bear acts as a tormentor , a seeming sociopath , and while terror dominates his unit and kills his fellow soldiers sequentially, he grabs more and more power for himself, in increasingly violent, damaging approaches.
At the same time, the horned creatures are enduring their own terror, through a spreading, deadly beast in their forest.
“In the early stages, it seems like a comedy,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it becomes a more intense and sorrowful film. And ultimately, it’s a scary feature.”
The Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like among the playful films from an iconic filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing drawn beings curse, shoot each other, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it turns into more akin to a darker film from that creator, with increasingly explicit brutality , a palpable link to the actual tragedy of war.
Ultimately, it is a complete extreme drama massacre.
The horror that turns the film a perfect Halloween movie begins well before than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is suited for the devoted fans of gore, for lovers of extreme cinema who desire to view something they’ve never watched previously, and who can handle a narrative which delivers unflinching brutality.
Watch it in a dark room without any distractions, and the finale will dig deep within you and stay with you.
