The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
